Who is an
Everyday Artisan?
I am an Everyday Artisan. But, what does this mean? For me, it means that I feel a need, on a daily basis , to live in an artistic way. This may manifest in actively creating through art and craft, or maybe in my cooking, or just in the way I see the world - the patterns, the colors, the forms.
I started my artisan journey, many years ago. I often get so excited about everything I learn that I just must share it with others. This has been a life long tendency and led me to being a teacher. Becoming a teacher was absolutely not on my list of possible careers growing up. I was going to be an architect, and did all the things one does to become an architect, education, travel, appreciation. Architecture and art, at their very core, reflect and shape how one may live in the world and I loved every minute of that part of my life journey.
I transitioned from architecture to teaching, right after completing my final project for my master’s degree. I attended a lecture on Waldorf education and jumped in with both feet and with my entire family in tow. I found the art, music, constant learning and sharing to be a perfect fit for my natural inclinations. My hands, brain and heart were constantly busy and I was living and breathing an artistic life. I was creating it day by day. This artistic approach to life shifted my world view and I became committed to intentionally creating my life, each and every day. Now, I spend my days dreaming of projects, creating in my studio and kitchen, and sharing as much as I can with anyone interested and seeking a way to destress, finding personal well-being through handwork, and celebrating creativity in a million different ways.
